In 2015 it was very common to get a coffee to go. But what could you do if your smartphone runs out of battery while on the go? There was no convenient solution.
Chimpy wanted to solve this problem and choose a circular service for it. For the first time ever, a fully integrated powerbank rental service has been introduced at a big retail convenience chain. Chimpy and its partner Valora consequently focused on convenience and sustainability.
Because a product or service can only be successful if it’s convenient for the customer, sustainability alone doesn’t make the difference.
Circularity means recurring customers
Renting a powerbank is the most convenient way to stay charged on the go and turns a one-off need into a daily habit. 53% of customers claim to use the service more than once per week. Circular is not just intrinsically more sustainable – it creates value for customers and shops.
10 years after the first pilot, Chimpy’s powerbank rental service serves now up to 100’000 customer every month generating a total revenue of >10M € per year at more than 3500 POS in Switzerland and Germany as well as in Vienna, Milano and other European cities.
We are convinced that only a longterm successful business makes a real sustainable impact. That’s why we will give our best to continue writing this sustainability story further on.
