Our power bank rental service is celebrating its 10th anniversary in retail this year. To this day, Chimpy is the first and only product available in retail that is fully reusable.
In 2015, grabbing a coffee to go was easy. But what if your smartphone battery died on the go? Back then, there was no simple and convenient charging solution—until Chimpy came along!
Gen Z uses the service multiple times a week
With our powerbanks we have helped people out of a low-battery emergency over 7 million times. It turns out that the green power bank has become the go-to mobile charging solution, especially among 17 to 24-year-olds.
“Our service is incredibly simple and convenient. And the younger generation loves sustainable and circular products—as long as they’re convenient too,” says Edwin Winkler, our CEO.
Our ability to run a successful business after 10 years on the market is closely tied to the convenience retailer Valora. Although there was some skepticism in 2015, Valora was ultimately convinced to run a pilot. And it was an immediate success.
The benefit for retailers: customers come in twice—once to rent, once to return. This leads to up to 3.2% more foot traffic in some stores - thanks to Chimpy. But more importantly, people in Switzerland can count on a quick battery fix nearby - just like grabbing a coffee to go.
Celebrating with a confetti shower
A partnership lasting a decade deserves a proper celebration. Therefore we cheered together with Valora at the agency partners’ annual meeting in Oerlikon, at the Chimpy booth. There was unanimous agreement: they want to continue powering up the next generation of customers for another 10 years - or more.
Together we also submitted a joint application for the NACS Sustainability Award, presented at the most important industry event in Copenhagen.
Of course, we also want to continue improving our sustainability. Although we’ve already accomplished a lot with our circular product, there’s more to do. For example, we aim to maximize the usage frequency of our power banks. Some of them have already been used over 30 times. But that’s just the beginning.
